Margaret Meaker

Margaret Meaker has over 35 years’ experience working in the community services sector in support worker, coordinator, and leadership roles across community aged care, disability support, and inclusive early childhood education. She has an advanced certificate in social welfare.

Margaret is currently the CEO of Special Teaching and Research (STaR) Ltd and has worked at STaR since its inception in voluntary and paid capacities. Margaret’s qualifications, vision and skill, together with her lived experience as the mother of a child with a significant disability, have ensured that the objectives of the organisation have broadened to address the needs of individuals with disabilities well beyond the preschool years.

Margaret’s daughter, Lilian, was one of the first children to enrol in the STaR program in 2002, and she often explains that discovering special education in the early years equipped her with hope and gave her the confidence to pursue better and reject compromise. She continues to advocate for people with disabilities to have access to quality lifelong learning.
